Advice please - I dont know what to do??

I am really fed up and dont know what to do, so am after some advice.

I am on a DMP with CCCS and so as part of that budget form car repairs etc. Well last week I had to have new brakes and 2 new tyres setting me back £175.

Now my head gasket and rad has gone on car, cheapest quote so far is £600:eek:

Bearing in mind I had the head gasket done only 12 months ago but it has now gone because of the rad, what do I do? My car is a T reg and not worth a lot, but I cant afford to get another one as have no money in my emergency fund and obviously no savings.

The car is my only form of transport and there isnt any public transport, luckily I have the use of a car this week only from a friend who has gone away.

So do I cut my losses on the old banger and try and get another cheap one, which I dont know the history on, or try and get the car repaired, if I can get it any cheaper??

Thanks for all the advice in advance

  • My hubby (not a car techie I promise he works in a choc factory) had mended all our head gaskets when theyve gone
All he needed to help was a haines manuel. Do you know anyone that could give it a go?

  • We had this issue a few years ago with an old car, the head gasket went we had it repaired, radiator went and blew the head gasket again within the space of a few weeks and it cost us a fortune, it is a nightmare!

I guess the only advice I can offer you is, you aren't guaranteed to get a trouble free car if you get a newer one anyway, can you afford to trade this car in a get a newer one?

How has the car been generally? if it's not causing you loads of problems otherwise, I would stick with what you know and get it repaired

Although it had done over 100,000 miles most of them have benn with me.

I cant really afford anything at the moment but looks like I am going to have to try and find the cheapest quote
