  • hi.
briefly, wife had massive stroke in april 2006
we lived off savings cc's & o/drafts until dwp income was sorted .
In Nov 2007 we went into a DMP with CCCS.
Ltsb & Barclays have been great and suspended interest etc.
Natwest keep applying interest but have 'stopped charges ' ( as a goodwill gesture) our debt in Nov 2007 was £3400.00 but is now £5000.00 Aug 2009
Any advice I can get to stop/reduce interest to our NatWest would be very much appreciated

If you want to get a loan to help you pay your existing loans and people are saying No so you know you are in trouble, what's the next logical step?

Well I have done it and spoke to CCS who were much more reassuring than payplan. My DMP should be up and running soon

    Hello,

Unfortunately there is no way of making your creditors agree to stop the interest and charges when you offer reduced payments. If the debt does keep increasing, it maybe worth having an appointment with a debt counsellor to see if there are any other options available too you. If you would like an appointment please call 0800 138 1111.

    Hello,

As a general rule, consolidating is a bad idea as all it does is move your debt from one place to another and increase the overall interest you will pay.

Are you struggling to meet your monthly payments?

  • Hi Sarah,

OH has been advised to apply for a DRO, but I wanted to know the implications of the below...

OH had 3 creditors, but in March I received a threatening letter from a Debt collection agency asking for a F&F settlement of a £440 debt at a reduced rate of £333. I paid it so he now only has 2 creditors. How will this impact his DRO application?

One advisor has said it will affect it - but not said how, another has said it won't affect it as I paid it not my OH. I am really confused??

    Thanks

    Hi

Is it possible to switch from Payplan to CCCS mid way through a dmp?
We've been with them since 2005, but still have a long way to go, and we're not totally happy with the treatment.

Also, with regards to people managing it by themselves, how do they usually fare?

    Thanks

    Hi Karenreeves

A DRO is not applicable if the person has assets of over £300. It could possibly be seen that in order to allow you’re OH to qualify for a DRO he paid off a creditor and disposed of the £300+ asset. It may be required to prove that you made the payment to clear the debt possibly to allow for a DRO.

He may want to check with the Insolvency Service about this issue as it could lead to his DRO not proceeding or been revoked. Call them on 0845 602 9848.

    Regards

    Hi Mozzy C

It is possible to switch a DMP to another provider as they are not legally binding.

You would need to have an appointment with one of our debt counsellors first. If the counsellor is happy to offer a DMP as a result of your appointment, we would then discuss with you how to end the current arrangement you have and setting it up with ourselves. CCCS does not charge for setting up or administering a Debt Management Plan.

If you would like us to take a look at your situation to see what options you have, you would need to book a telephone based appointment with one of our trained debt counsellors by calling our helpline on 0800 138 1111. Lines are open Monday to Friday 08:00-20:00. It would be helpful that when you call you have details ready regarding your income, expenditure and creditors, as this can help speed up the referral process. If you have this information ready it may be possible to refer you directly to a counsellor if one is available, otherwise we will arrange a time that is convenient for you to be called back for an appointment.

Alternatively, you can use our online electronic facility called Debt Remedy. Debt Remedy will assist you in completing a financial statement which includes information on your household, employment, income, expenditure and debts. All this information is used as a basis to determine the options available to you to deal with your situation.

Once you’ve followed the process through and completed all the required information you will immediately be presented with an advice booklet, which will provide tailored advice for you based on your current circumstances. It will also provide advice on ways you may be able to improve your situation. If you would like to get immediate advice on your situation, click here to go directly to Debt Remedy.

A lot of people successfully manage their own plans so you could give it a go, and if it’s not working look at the alternatives.

    Hope this helps

  • He does not have assets of more than £300. He did not pay the creditor, I did, so not sure if this makes any difference.

I do understand what you're saying, but neither of us knew anything about DROs up until recently, so wouldn't of known anything about paying off assets and creditors in preference etc..

I will try The IS again. But to be honest they have not been clear on many things as the DRO thing is new and there are so many grey areas.

    Thanks
