Hi rachaelfleur and thank you for your message

As this is a priority, then it needs to be dealt with first, as you cannot manage without heating and hot water.

It may mean that you have to make token payments to your creditors until you have got the money together and paid for the boiler.

Ring our client support team and explain the situation and they will tell you what to do next.

    Regards

    Hi Sue,

Thank you so much for your help. I'll call CCCS tomorrow and get something sorted.
Do what you want because in the end people will judge you anyway.

    hi amanda,
we filled out all relevant forms for housing benefit and income support but each proved fruitless, both replied you are employed so do not qualify.
i have however been to cab and they advised due to my physical health decline since incapacity benefit first awarded 9 yrs ago apply for dla. i filled out forms and have just been awarded high rate care and mobility.
my husband is back to work and thankfully back to health his last scan and thorough eye checks all good, (blessings for that) and we have almost caught up with all our bills, although our credit rating has suffered horrendously, i would say we can sleep at night lol (husband works nights and i dont sleep lil more than an hour due to health), but resting easier now.
good luck to all with money problems, and thank you again amanda for good sound advice .

    Hi CCCS counsellors,

My DH has found out that he will have to go into hospital shortly for an operation and will be off work afterwards for around 3 months.

He will only be entitled to SSP for that time, and as he is on a DMP with yourselves we are worried about what will happen - he currently pays just under what he will get in sick pay to his creditors, so we will find things impossible.
he has been on the DMP for about 4 years, never so much as a late payment in all that time.

Would his creditors accept a lower token payment while he's off work? And if that is the case is it best to negotiate that through yourselves or to approach them directly? Would they expect the deficit in payments to be made up at some point?

    Thank you!

    Hi

I have completed my CCCS details on the CCCS website and sent my letters and budget to my creditors. 3 creditors are saying i need a cccs client number so I called cccs and they say as i completed all my info online i do not have number and to tell my creditors this. The creditors are now calling me a liar and saying i must give them a number and then they will look at my suggestions for minimum payment. I called back CCCS who said i definately do not need a client number and to tell creditors this. I feel as if i'm going round in circles! Can you please help as it's driving me mad getting 8+ calls a day from each creditor and having to keep explaining it.

Anyone???? Please................. I can pay you in chocolate :rotfl:

    Hello Debt counsellors
I have just calculted that I am 17300 in debt. I am intensley ashamed of this The thought scares me but I am in a place now whetre I really want to tackle it. I have transferred my card balances onto fixed interest payment cards. My morgage payments are about £900 per month. I wondered if it would be worth taking a 6 month payment break and extend my mortgage for 6 months, to pay of a large chunk of this. I have thought about a debt managment service, and not sure if I can handle calls asking for my money. Can you give me some advice pls? I am at a loss about where to go to get some support..

    Hello

I am considering going for a DRO and need a list of up to date figures for what I owe my creditors, how do I find this out as soon as possible?

I know asking them is the obvious answer but I have tried to avoid all contact by telephone for ages now and I don't want to 'break the silence' :o

    Any suggestions please?

Many thanks and best wishes to everyone!

    :)

    Hi,

I've had a pretty good read through the forums and I have a question which I can't find answered anywhere else!

I lived in Scotland in 2002-2004. Prior to that I lived in England. When I moved to Scotland I had a few bank accounts / credit cards etc that I applied for in England.

Then in Scotland I ran up a bunch more (credit cards / unsecured personal loans etc).

Eventually it all got too much so I moved to Australia for a few years. So now, in 2009, I'm back in England ( I recommend this to anyone who wants to escape their debts - the weather is good too :-) ).

And rather neatly, my debts are all pretty much statue barred (no contact / payment etc). Good news since the nasty debt collection agencies are catching up with me again !

Anyway - my question is this.

What limit applies - 6 years or 5 years.

My assumption is that debt agreements that I signed in England are 6 years, and agreements signed in Scotland are 5 years but it's not clear!

The National Debt Hotline website says 'if you live in Scotland' etc but I assume it's not as simple as simply moving north of the border and suddenly debts incurred in England have a statue of limitations of 5 years!

Equally I guess (this wouldn't be such good news), it might just be as simple as where you live, irrespective of where you happened to be when you signed the agreement for the loan.

Any guidance would be appreciated. Pretty sure national debt helpline could assist but I guess they are pretty busy at the moment.

    Cheers alll,

    David

Hi msfoxymax and thank you for your email

You do not need to give them a number and they should not be harassing you for one.

If they are calling you all the time and stressing you out ,then you can ask them to stop contacting you by telephone and communicate only in writing.
I have attached a sample letter you can use to send to each of your creditors requesting this.
Keep a copy for yourself and send recorded delivery.
If they do not comply with your request, you can make a complaint to the OFT.

In the meantime, send them a copy of your budget and continue to pay what you can afford and do not be pressured into paying more.

    To whom it may concern

    Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing to ask that you no longer contact me by telephone as your calls are causing me considerable stress due to the frequency, and that they are being made at inappropriate times. Please remove my telephone number from your database and send all future communication in writing to my home address.

I have provided the most recent copy of my income and expenditure to make you aware of my current financial situation. I will continue to make my payment of x on the x of every month and will keep you informed of any changes in my circumstances as I am keen to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

I understand that following this request if you continue to call I can contact the Office of Fair Trading to make a formal complaint.

Please confirm in writing that your records have been amended.

    Yours sincerely

    Regards

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help!

My husband and I are in quite a bit of trouble with our money. We usually run out of money well before the next payday and end up borrowing from family which we then have to pay back at the beginning of the next month which has got us into a vicious circle. We have 2 loans, a credit card, a huge mortgage (which includes an extra unsecured amount of £30k) and an overdraft and we can't see our way out at all. We're looking at maybe doing an IVA but I have been told that at the end of this they would ask us to re-mortgage out house to release equity - is this correct? The house is in negative equity at the moment. Then I was thinking about going bankrupt but I'm not sure what the implications are for this and I don't want to lose the house if possible as we have a young daughter. There is an added complication in that my husband owns a third share of a small apartment in Spain with his parents and I'm not sure whether this would be taken into account.

Could someone please reply and point me in the right direction for help?? We can't go on like this anymore and it's come to the point when I don't even want to look at the bank balance because I'm so afraid of what it will be! We have tried budgeting but this doesn't seem to be working and there's nothing left to pay for anything unforseen or even basic things like clothes etc.

    Thank you.

Hi MrsJM and thank you for your message,

An IVA is not always the best option for everyone and is a legally binding contract.
Without knowing your full financial details, I would not be able to advise whether this would be the best option for yourselves. There may be other options would be better for your circumstances.
However, if an IVA was the best option, then you could be asked to remortgage in about the fourth year of the IVA if there was some equity at that time.

I would recommend that you call us for an appointment to discuss your situation with a debt counsellor. The counsellor will put together a budget showing your income and expenditure and then look at all options available.

You can book a telephone based appointment by calling our helpline free on 0800 138 1111. Lines are open Monday to Friday 08:00-20:00. It would be helpful that when you call you have details ready regarding your income, expenditure and creditors, as this can help speed up the referral process. If you have this information ready it may be possible to refer you directly to a counsellor if one is available, otherwise we will arrange a time that is convenient for you to be called back for an appointment.
