Offsetting: Abbey and MBNA...

I am just about to commence a DMP and one of my creditors is MBNA. I opened an Abbey account thinking that this bank has no connection with any of my creditors and that funds in this account could therefore not be taken by my creditors.

However I now read that MBNA had/have links with Abbey. Can anyone say for certain whether or not MBNA would be able to remove funds from my Abbey account?

Thank you.

    Hi
Not sure on this but I had an MBNA/Abbey credit card and an Abbey bank account when I started my dmp in January, I was advised by CCCS to change.

One for the Vine - Thanks for the PM.

    Abbey is owned by Santander.

MBNA issued Abbey credit cards post September 01 and took up the running and administration of any credit card accounts opened prior to that date.

When Santander took over the Abbey, some accounts passed back to them, and they started to issue their own cards again.

If your account is still with MBNA, then your bank account is COMPLETELY safe. MBNA have no access to this. To all intents and puposes, Abbey have no dealings and no knowledge (other than CRAs) of your credit card.

However, if your card has passed back to Abbey/Santander, then I'm sure the above would not apply.

If you need any further info, I have marked this thread or you can send me a further Pm

    Thanks.
No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

  • Thank you everyone for the replies. Given oscar52's assurance, I feel happy to stick with the Abbey account...
