Hope someone can help please.
I need a carpet going from botton off hallway going up the stairs and then top of the landing , do i just take a measurement of the whole lot?
I would like the carpet to go from bottom off hallway ,stairs and top landing with no breaks .e.g cuts in carpet.
At the moment ive only measured the bottom hallway and top landing as i dont know how to measure stairs.
I have 14 steps , does anyone know what metres i should add on to my measurements..... all steps are standard size apart from 3 corner steps which are slight bigger.
thank you

Are you going to lay this yourself? If not the carpetlayer will estimate what you need. Stair carpets are often laid in parts with the joints between tread and riser and are invisible. This is because it is sometimes uneconomic to have a long strip of narrow carpet.0

As Economiser said, any joint will be invisible. Just ordered a stair/landing carpet today. All you have to do is tell them the size of the landing and the number of stairs.0

measure the riser and the tread of a step x that by number of steps. PRoper carpet layers will lay it in one piece with a clever fold under neath the riser as belive it or not that gets more wear then the tread (kicking of toes going up and scuffing of heels comming down) also as you have mentioned you have a dog leg on your stairs thwy will also fold under but at an angle to allow seemless running of any pattern you may choose.
also let them know the height of the stairs and overall length of stairs add on the two hall lengths and let them know the different lengths....
REMEMBER IF YOU TELL THEM THE DIMENSIONS AND THEY ARE WRONG YOU WILL STILL HAVE TO PAYTHE SHABBY SHABBY FOUNDER0 -
Try this URL for a carpet measureing calculator. Its a USA site, but conversion to metric is quite simple. HTH. Dave

If in doubt, measure it with a long piece of string and slip the string in your pocket to take with you to the shop in case they disbelieve you. You can then also make marks on the string (different coloured felt pen) where the hall stops/stairs start and where the top step finishes.
I never cease to be amazed at how ridiculous they can make you feel when they ask you questions you never expected!0 -
If you are going to get a shop to supply and fit the carpet, then let them measure for what is required. That way, if there is a mistake, it will have been made by someone else. If you measure and get it wrong then you will have to pay for any mistake.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
