Hi I have a problem with my Samsung CDR/DVD SM-308B It just won't see blank CDs when I put them in anymore. I usually burn through Media Player but no matter how many different Blank disks I put in, my system can't seem to read them
Any tips, help etc.

Just tried, it doesn't see any CD at all but DVDs seem to be ok

And about 6 weeks ago I was able to compress music into MP3 format for use in my carIf youcan lie down at night knowing in your heart that you just made someone’s day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day!!0 -
I have just tried a DVD and it works fine but now doesn't want to play music CDs either.

I did compress music into Data format about 6 weeks ago so that I could play it in my car which has MP3 capabilityIf youcan lie down at night knowing in your heart that you just made someone’s day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day!!0 -
If it doesn't read any kind of CD it sounds like the CD laser has failed; different lasers are used for reading/writing CD or DVDs. If it's still under guarantee you could send it back as a fault, or if not, the only option would be to replace it as it isn't something that's repairable. You could try a lens cleaner, but in my experience, these lasers can fail quite frequently, even if the drive hasn't seen heavy use.
I guess it's a desktop drive, so you could get a new drive, but still keep your Samsung drive as a second DVD burner, as the CD laser failing won't effect it's DVD capabilities.0 -
I agree
Sounds like the CD side is faulty. Buy a new one:idea:0 -

Any ideas or can you point me towards any bargains;) If youcan lie down at night knowing in your heart that you just made someone’s day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day!!0 -
Look on ebay, ebuyer or wherever
Probably get one for about 25 quid
Get a decent brand, sony, philips etc
I assume you have a desktop computer?:idea:0 -
