Citizens Advice help??

Hi, me and my husband have been budgeting and cutting back like crazy to clear our debts, now two weeks before Christmas he has been signed off work with depression and is unable to work (self employed, no sick pay!) I have made an appointment with the CAB basically to see what we can do, I am forever dealing with debtors on the phone chasing for what I can't give them, I am struggling with my husbands depression and trying to keep life and soul together. I have taken on more hours at work, so am exhausted, but even that aint enough, my wage will probably just about cover the mortgage, not to mention anything else, will probably leave about £3.00 left per month. Obvioulsy this is not possible.

What kind of help can I expect from CAB, I have no idea, all I know is I need to do something, and quick!

You have done the best thing by contacting CAB. They have access to all sorts of information regarding debt, housing, consumer, benefits and many other subjects and they will look at your overall situation.

If your local CAB has a debt specialist then you will be dealing with them. They will either advise you how to do it yourself or they will do the negotiations etc. on your behalf. It depends on the resources of any bureau how they operate because they are all managed individually. They will help set up repayments at an amount you can afford and advise on benefits you might be entitled to. There might also be other things that come up when you see them that they will help you with. Good luck.

Remember to take all paperwork with you.
