smelly sheepskin boots/slippers what can I do?

Options
I have some Sheepskin boots/slippers which I have been wearing around the house the last couple of weeks to keep me warm and avoid putting the heating on, I noticed last night that they really smell! I have never has this problem with my shoes before so I guess it is because I have been wearing them a lot, and they have made my feet really warm. ( I change my socks every day)

I dont think putting them in the washing machine or immersing them in soapy water will do them any favours, so are there any ideas? I tried spraying the inside with deodorant, now they smell wiffy and of deodorant, not a pleasant combination!:rotfl:

hi! you could try steaming them to deodorise them - if this is difficult you could mist them with a very fine spray then put them on a low heat in a tumble dryer or over a radiator...you'll have to be very gentle with them to make sure they do not shrink or anything, but think it should be ok!

The problem may be caused by wearing socks with them. I always wear sheepskin barefoot and because it's a natural fibre I've never had a problem with smelly feet. Synthetic materials are what cause the odours ;)

You can wash sheepskin boots by hand, using a proper wool washing liquid ... http://www.kiwi-sheepskins.co.uk/sheepskin-footwear.htm

  • Bicarb sounds good, never thought about the socks, I thought I was saving them from smelling instead of the other way around!
