    Yep, http://www.laplandwestmidlands.co.uk/

    Confirms it's closed.

"Due to bad publicity and lack of ticket sales, we regret that Lapland West Midlands will not be opening as planned on 6th December 2008 and the event has been cancelled"

    Bad publicity, shame.
    Lack of ticket sales, shame.

Refunds would have to come via PayPal.

Be interesting to see if PayPal has frozen the organisers' merchant account.

The Lapland West Midlands website repeatedly stated that various dates were already heavily pre-booked or almost sold out.

At £25 per booking, the Lapland West Midlands PayPal account should by now have several £100,000s in it.

    Or, er, perhaps not.

Yep, confirmed by the Sky News outside broadcast team, there was nothing there except some cheap tents. They were empty aswell. To quote the Sky correspondent, "Lapland West Midlands haven't packed up and left, they were never there in the first place." So it's confirmed, scam number 2 closed, are we placing bets on where number 3 will be?

But the landline number given was the farmhouse in the picture wasn't it- so wasn't it those people? The people in the farmhouse own the field don't they?
  • Excellent news its closed, obviously a scam from the start and was just a callous attempt to exploit parents who have children at this time of year.

I'm surprised that they are citing poor ticket sales as a reason for closing, their web site showed that most days had only limited availability and some were sold out!

I hope that all the other scam artists that are contemplating this sort of venture realise that they are wasting their time.

I'm under the impression people living nearby and people in farm house had nothing to do with it. It's a car boot sale field. The locals didn't want the event either. The landline number was a concrete seller in Wolverhampton.
Besides, Sky News would have been up at the farm house front door looking for comments if they were involved.

    * In view of the organisers' address and the location of this doomed West Midlands Lapland, has a new word entered the vocabulary, i.e:
    BOGNOP

    1) A narrow lane in Essington, near Wolverhampton, West Midlands UK;

    2) To make a bognop, that is, to embark on an ambitious money-making scheme and make a total hash of it

    3) I / he / she / they / it bognopped: fell into a state of utter disaster

    4) I / he / she / they / it is / are a total bognopper: complete moron

    5) You have been bognopped: unfortunately your plans have gone comprehensively awry

But it was nearly sold out?!? Lack of sales? All these little snippets of info just re-enforces the fact that it was a con to get your money. Besides, knowing Kackland New Forest was a ticket con, if these people were genuine why couldn't it be just simply pay on the door?

Come on. Be fair. There wasn't enough space left on the remnant of their website to state that, er, um:

"We regret to announce that Local Authority officers who visited the field this morning said that if we did open at 12noon today they would close us down at 12.05pm.

"We are aware that we did previously state that our Theme Park had been inspected and approved but unfortunately, we are complete Bognoppers.

"Our website was otherwise truthful in every respect including the booking page references to various days already being nearly sold out. The only reason we're now saying we hardly sold any tickets at all is because we are, er, complete Bognoppers.

"We include herewith the text of a statement by Councillor Carol Deane, Staffordshire County Council:

"We have come along to see what they have got and if it had opened we would have been able to shut it down because they didn't have the appropriate permission.

"Our officers would have come along and said the event couldn't go ahead."

"Anyone seeking a refund should contact Consumer Direct on 08454 040506."

    "We trust this clarifies matters."
