Job Application and Credit Check

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, I just think you guys are about the most knowledgable people I know to ask.
I have been offered a fantastic job so I was very happy. I have been given a standard company application form to fill in (after I had already discussed the job with the manager - who is someone I know) and it does say that they will perform a credit check. This in itself isn't a problem, apart from it specifically asks about CCJ's. I received a CCJ 21 years ago, which I paid and now don't give a second thought to. I (along with DH) have had three mortgages since, I have my own credit card and have never been refused any kind of credit application.
I have applied for my credit file online today, but it tells me it will take two days. I need to let her know if I want the job by tomorrow evening. Does anyone know if firstly, the CCJ would show after all this time and secondly as the job is within the banking sector, do they have a way of finding it that credit companies don't?
I really don't want to ask my friend as I don't want to alarm her that there may be a problem when I could be worrying about nothing.

Hi
Don't panic, i seriously doubt that it will still show. How long ago did you pay it off completely?
It is best to be honest, just tell them you are a little worried as you had a ccj 21 years ago. I can't imagine it will be a problem, they only normally kick off if you are dishonest about it. Good luck with the new job.
I had to have a credit check done when i worked for a bank, and my boss told me that they are normally ok as long as you tell them the truth.0 -
I got a CCJ in August 2001 and paid it off fully in September 2002. The CCJ fell off my credit file in August 2007.
In the last few days, I applied for a job with a well-known insurance company. During the online application process, one of the questions was "Have you ever been bankrupt?", to which my reply was no, as I have never been bankrupt.
However, there was also a reference to them checking some other source of information to do with the courts, where I think CCJ information stays forever, although I'll be quite happy to be corrected if that is not the case.
Anyway, I thought it would be better to come clean, so I emailed the person who was the recruitment contact (I had previously applied through an agency website, where I was given the name of the recruiting company and a contact there - that person then asked me to apply through their own website, which is where the bankruptcy question arose). I told him the detail in the first paragraph above, and his reply was that they weren't interested, as I had dealt with the situation.
So, your CCJ certainly won't show up on a normal credit check after all this time, and I seriously doubt that they will regard it as a stumbling block to you getting the job.0 -
I can't guarantee it but I thought it came off your record 6 years after it was settled?Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
1) MFW Nov 21 £202K now £169.8K Equity 37.1%
2) £2.4K Net savings after CCs March 26 (but owed £1.1K) so £3.5K
3) Mortgage neutral by 06/30 (AVC £36.2K + Lump Sums DB £4.6K + (25% of SIPP 1.3K) = 42.1£127.5K target 33% 27/2/26 (If took bigger lump sum = 64K or 50.1%)
4) FI Age 60 income target £17.1/30K 57% (if mortgage and debts repaid - need more otherwise) (If bigger lump sum £15.8/30K 52.67%)
5) SIPP £5.2K updated 16/1/260 -
A CCJ disappears off your credit record 6 years after it is awarded against you, not 6 years after it is paid off.0

Thankyou for your time in replying. I have re-read the application form and it does ask have you ever had a ccj awarded against you, but in a seperate part it asks about bankruptcy.
DH wants me to call my friend and ask her what to put, so now you've said you contacted people you were applying to, I may do that.
Thanks again!0
