Shall I get a loan? a 0% CC? (any directions on that one?)
Yes, moving to another 0% credit card is a good way to keep interest out of the equation. There's a useful list at https://www.stoozing.com (click on tables).

Who are the "us" I have surprised? You are making a judgement call about our circumstances and that is a real shame when all I wanted was some help.

With so little info supplied, it's probably fair to say that most people would be surprised at how only £150 could be spared for debt.
The take home pay is "2,200" but we give £800 of that to both sets of parents who are in dire circumstances at the moment. This is not negotiable so please don;t reply telling me that we need to stop or re-look at this.
That leaves only £1400 per month with a £600 mortgage - now down to £800. Our council tax alone is nealry £200 - now with three children, you do the maths!

As you say, not a lot spare. Obviously, the main source of the problem is the £800. Is the situation with your parents needing this going to be temporary? If, so as already suggested, you can probably move the debt around on 0% credit cards until you can afford to pay it off. That’s a good short term solution.

If this is going to continue into the medium term, you may want to consider selling your shares.

If it’s going to be long term, then a more drastic change would be needed – perhaps selling your house and moving somewhere more affordable to reduce your mortgage.
I am very surprised at the comments "You will probably find you can have more spare cash if you are willing to change your spending habits and depending on how badly you want to reduce your debts." Clearly you made a statement on no facts at all.
All I wanted was assistance not someone to tell me how I should stop spending when clearly, in my case that was not the situation at all.

Just assumptions made on the lack of info I guess - no offence intended.
Thanks to anyone who replied with positive suggestions, but thx I'll not be looking for more money saving help on this particular thread.

Oh well, guess I wasted my time along with well intentioned others.

Not being funny Kdee, if you don't supply the facts then people can't really help. If you read through other posts, it is standard practice on this forum for people to post statement of affairs. People genuinely do want to help, but the only way they can do this is if you show exactly what you spend your money on. No-one is making judgements or criticising, but the information we were originally given was 48k income and only £150 spare. There was no mention of kids or helping out the parents.

I totally agree ! everyone was genuinely trying to help you !

Exactly! We might have saved you some money on things you hadn't realised you COULD save on, but now you'll never know.

Good luck - I reckon you might need it!

    Hi Kdee,

People were trying to help you and you bite their head off.

Lets just assume you were having a bad day.

You say giving £800 per month to both your parents is not negotiable ????

Why not ?? Maybe they can get state help ???

Would your parents want to see you put your family in debt for their benefit etc etc

Clearly you are very sensitive about your spending.

You say you can't cut back / pay more than £150 pcm back in debt. How about cutting down on trips to Euro disney (see your earlier post below).

    Hi Kdee,
Clearly you are very sensitive about your spending.

You say you can't cut back / pay more than £150 pcm back in debt. How about cutting down on trips to Euro disney (see your earlier post below).

How dreadful that you would make this sort of judgement call. This is exactly the sort of thing I was talking about earlier.
You have sorted through my previous posts and selected information to suit some sort of point you are trying to make.

We didn't take the trip to Eurodisney as we could not afford it. Does this make you feel better now? To make some sort of cheap jibe? Well, it certainly doesn't benefit me and the fact that I have had to defend myself on this board makes me feel even worse.

I would never judge people knowing nothing about their circumstances. I have clearly thanked people for any assistance they have given, and to the people that kindly wrote pm's to me in this matter, I have thanked them.
My parents are terminally ill and require around the clock care, a portion of which we are paying. As for my husband's parents, it is a private matter but one which will end in 18 months time as stated in my first post.
I once again, thank everyone who has pointed me in the direction of previous threads here and have asked the moderator to look at this thread with a view to closing it.

kdee , u sound like u have alot of anger. no one is judging u , just trying to help the best they can. now it is very kind of you to help your parents out as u are and nobody has knocked what u are doing. but are simply trying to give the best advice they can with the information that has been provided.
  • Hi Kydee,

People are only advising you based on the information you give them.

We can only make a as you call it "judgement call" on the information given.

Let me give you an example.

e.g If I say my salary is 100K a year but I am 50K in debt.

Other members might rightly make what you call a "judgement call" that I should control my spending / I am wasting my money / maybe I should look at my outgoings.

If I then come back and berate those members by saying HOW DARE they make a judgement that I should cut my spending AS actually I spent all my money on a life saving operation for me and then cuss them for making a "judgement call" on me.

Who is in the right ??????

How were they to know that is why I was in debt when they gave their advice.

You cannot blame people for not being psychic / telepathic.

People are only gave advice on the partial information you have given / gave.

You are making "judgment calls" on the judgement calls made by other people based on their judgement on the information given !!!!

I am sorry you are going through a difficult time and are no doubt under stress.

However people were just trying to do thir best to help you based on the info given.

Hence when you bite back at people trying to help you, other members like me understandably get riled.

People are not "judging" you they are trying to give you the best ADVICE based on the info you have given them.

READ ALL THE OTHER THREADS IN THIS SECTION AND SEE HOW MEMBERS ADVISE / MAKE SUGGESTIONS ETC but 95% of the time do not judge.

    well thats my rant over.

    I wish you well.
