Depends on your position in the bank, if you owe your bank and more essentially what your contract says. Dig out your contract and give your union a call or make an annoymous call/email to HR.0

Hi
Based on posts on the BK forum, it is better to talk to them about your debt early on and they may refer you to an in-house debt advisor.
If the advisor thinks you should go BK, the bank may be more supportive.
Certainly one recent poster has retained her job and gone Bk, whilst another person who did not tell them until he had gone BK lost his job.
But do get someone to talk to HR anonymously before you do anything. Are you in the union? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Hi Ebaybaby, I am in same position as you and worried about my job if I go BR, I have told them about my financial difficulties but have yet to find out what they would do if I go BR. My contract says nothing about being sacked if you go BR so I don't think they could sack me but I have yet to find out and yet to decide about going BR anyway. good luck tho.BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0

Hi Ebaybaby. I think it's up to the individual employer and what their policies are so can't be much help. I'm seriously considering going bankrupt at the moment after my business failed but have held off while trying to get a job. Just applied for what would basically be my old job back at RBS but didn't even get to submit my CV as I admitted my credit rating was less than perfect and that was it - not interested. Given the number of banks going bankrupt / in serious financial difficulties (including RBS) I think it's a bit ridiculous to stop someone applying for a job when the employers credit rating probably wouldn't stand up to much scrutiny either! But there you go .. Good luck anyway - it would be interesting to know how you get on ..0

Thanks all, I was asking on behalf of a friend who is a bank cashier, she doesnt want to say anything to work unitl she is defo sure thats the option to take. She is in a bad way financially and is under the impression that she will lose her job. I think the best option for her will be to go BK, her husband has walked out leaving her with a massive mortgage, debts etc and gone off and rented his own flat! In the meantime he is giving her a pittance.
I will keep you all updated though. Good luck to you DON79 too.0
