Mens Electric Shavers

Options
I want to get a reasonably price shaver for my husband for Christmas. I understand that it's no longer the case that they aren't as good as a wet shave so I want to get one that is as good. So how much do i need to spend to get a shave good enough without overspending? They seem to be priced between £20 and £200!

I was looking at phillips purely because they seem to be the most prevalent shaver, and three caught my eye. THE HQ8150 at £55, The HQ8050 at £73.99 (currently half price) but this uses the nivea canisters which could make it a false economy?! and a very expensive Arcitec £170 model.

Is there really a huge difference, and what level do I really need? He is used to using a Mach 3 razor which I reckon costs him £10 in blades every 2 months so I'd like to get this right!

Any help much appreciated

I've used traditional Philishave 3-head shavers for 30 years. I treated myself to one of the new ones - an HS 8020 with the Nivea system- and it is utter c**p. It has the same sort of heads as the Arcitec. I'm back to my old one now. Wish I'd paid more attention to the user reviews on Amazon.

Both my hubby & son use the phillips shavers that use Nivea in them, and they say its the best shave they`ve ever had. I bought hubby`s half price from Amazon, cost me £42.99 .
  • I use the Mach 3 razor and in my opinion you won't come near as good a shave with any electric razor but for what it's worth my brother swears by the HQ8150

I'm in the same position as VixNewbie, except that I want one for myself ;). Does anyone have further recommendations as I can't believe just how expensive they are?

If not, i may try the Philips HQ8150, it seems to have very good reviews.

    Thanks.
