Until they went mouldy or sprouted, even then I'd probably salvage what I could.

Onions shouldn't be kept in the fridge. We grow our own and properly stored will last almost a whole year. I keep them in open weave bags or baskets which allow air and light to circulate in the garage. Onions sprout if kept in the dark, potatoes need to be kept in dark but onions need light.0

Months;) and they really don't need to be in the fridge.0

I wouldn't keep it in fridge either.
I use onions my parents have grown and they last for ages. I would never throw them out anyways. If you feel like onions (or any other veg) aren't going to be used up before they pass their best then chop and freeze them.

I also do as others and would salvage any usable bits even if there was mould/sprouting. Many thanks to maltesers for the storage advice as I have been keeping my onions in a blackout bag same as my spuds.0

Do you mean a whole, unpeeled onion? If so, as other people have said, they don't need to be kept in the fridge at all - I keep mine in a sturdy plastic bag in the kitchen and they'll last for weeks.
Or do you mean a bit of an onion, that's been peeled and part used, and you're just left with what you didn't use? If it's this situation, then my answer would be "until it goes off" - shrivelled and/or mouldy - I find it lasts three or four days, maybe more, wrapped tightly in clingfilm.
(And thanks for reminding me that I still have half an onion sitting in the fridge in exactly this condition - I meant to put it in the curry tonight but forgot and peeled a new one instead. Oh well, it should still be OK on Wednesday, when I next need onion!)Back after a very long break!0 -
