    Hi everybody.

Over the last few weeks we have had a number of "troll" attacks on the boards.

What is a Troll? A troll is a person that posts deliberately provocative, nasty or hurtful comments on threads. They may be a person with no previous connection to the board or someone that has created a pseudonym to get their point made.

If you should get a comment made on any thread you post asking for help and advice please realise this comment is not directed at you personally.
We really are all a lovely bunch here (oops, modest, sorry) so please ignore these nasty comments and continue to post here as normal.

what should i do if i get a comment made on my thread?

firstly do not respond to the comment as this invariably is what the person wants. At the bottom of the post, on the left hand side is a red "warning" triangle. Click this and then "send" the message that comes up. This will report the message to abuse who will review it's content and delete it.

The person we had this morning was particularly vile and nasty and please believe me is an extreme rarity here.
Above all PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE BOARDS. THIS SITE IS AN ASSET TO SO MANY, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT FEELS THE WORLD IS FALLING IN ON YOU. THERE IS SUCH A WEALTH OF ADVICE HERE TO BE HAD THAT THE COMMENTS OF ONE MUST NOT DETER YOU FROM AVAILING YOURSELF OF THE KNOWLEDGE HERE!!!!

It is testament to the work that martin has done and continues to do that so many people give their time knowledge and experience freely to others, without judgement, to lift people out of the depths of debt crisis

PLEASE DO NOT LET THE ACTIONS OF THE MINORITY RUIN THAT.

    Kind wishes
    P

That also happened on CAG BTW last year but the culprits were 'known' and quickly sussed out on there. Caused an awful lot of upset because when they made themselves known, what profession etc, most users felt uncomfortable because of what they'd been put through when in debt. Not pleasant. Being in debt is not a criminal offense for example.

Well, I am not a troll but have been on the receiving end of a few this last week here. So it seems. Or people who just like to bait, wind you up for whatever reasons. Though, I've probably now been mislabelled one for purely sticking up for other users here when I see them getting a tough time.

Yes, this site is invaluable and as I have said ... before ... it's the emotional support that matters the most with debt. To keep you going. But I've got to say recently here I have seen that not in abundance. Though the majority have been okay but it just takes one you have a disagreement with and it gets ugly. We can all have disagreements on methods, but judging others for why or what situation they are in now, unemployed, ill, out of work for whatever reason isn't on. And that is what I don't like. When people have a go and judge. That is not what people need to be reading or seeing when they are in serious debt worries. Especially when they have been either turned away elsewhere or cannot find that help elsewhere.

I am sorry if that makes me unpopular here but it had to be said. People don't need judging, we can all make mistakes. And we can all come adrift in life for whatever reason. When we do, the best thing we look for is a helping hand. And if anyone wants to say that's 'pathetic' then so be it. I'd rather show compasssion than be without remorse or conscience. And certainly never judge without just cause because of being in debt, hard times.

I'm very compassionate and sometimes I allow my heart to rule my head and don't know when to shut up. But it's never without good cause/reason. I don't know anyone here but I will help however I can. Whether it's advice I've been given, what areas I have worked in throughout life, knowledge picked up on Google, the news, whereever it doesn't matter it is STILL useful to someone who needs it.

Time for bed I think as it's 5.24 am. But after earlier it's ramped my body clock up. So couldn't sleep, don't feel tired. Tired, but also fed up. But there you go. Can't have a perfect life can we?
Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.
  • Hi everyone,

I've just joined the forum but for the life of me can't figure out how you post a new thread or ask a new question ? can anyone help ?

    Thanks
  • No. But someone probably will. Goodbye.

That thread just quickly degenerated, I understand what you you were saying to the OP , and the other poster was a bit short on kindnesss and support

Hope you keep helpimg people with knowledge and kindness, and sometimes when people are trying to bait you its better to walk away for a few minutes and just come back with a silly smillie :kisses3:

    Thanks Numpty,

some of us had a bit of a late night

MerlinExcalibur - On this particular forum many posters are feeling very vulnerable & unsure when they first join so most of us try hard to word our posts carefully so as not to send them running away. Although it's good to point out where & how people can help themselves the manner in which it's done needs to be quite gentle, although it can be frustrating when people appear to be unwilling to accept advice offered.

This compassion has earned us the reputation of being 'huggy' and we are PROUD of that. I'd rather be a huggy than a thoughtless, heartless vicious person who gets their kicks by slating others.

We dont tolerate trollish behaviour here & anyone who starts any will soon find that there is a hardcore gang who will revel in wading in to show them the error of their ways.

Guys - you know who you are & on behalf of all DFW's :T :A
