State Pension Query

Options
When do the DWP tell you when you will receive your first pension. I turn 65 in two weeks and they have told me how much I will get but they did not tell me when my first and subsequent payments would be made.

    Hello hansi,
I've returned to 2 letters advising that SP is approaching and had very helpful calls on 0845.3001084 and the Freephone no. given later:0800.991234.
    TRY THIS ONE FIRST, OBVIOUSLY.
I understood the money would go into my Bank a/c automatically from my birthday onwards.
Give them a ring to confirm - just have your NI no. ready.

  • Yes, phone them. Having received the letter about 3 - 6 months prior to your pension, if you don't fill in the form and return it, then they think you are deferring your pension. You have to actively return the form.

So give them a call. I have found in my dealings with the Pension people (I am deferring currently), that they are lovely people who seem to enjoy their jobs!

    A rare breed.

    Good luck

Thanks, I just called them. I did that because the last letter I had said that they would contact me to let me know if the first payment would be different to the rest but he confirmed the four weekly payment ok. It's a pain that you have to wait four weeks after your birthday though! Thanks for your help.

I'm not deferring mine. I want to get back all that money I've paid them over the years, and I want it now! :D:D:D

    Hello Jen,
I just wanted to echo your words.
Jill and Damien have been lovely and full of helpful advice.
A further note, hansi - you can opt to receive money weekly/fortnightly/monthly. Give them another call.
    Best wishes.

I believe you can have it paid weekly if you request it.

I have already arranged a four weekly payment cycle in the original application. What I was referring to was the quote in their letter. " Your first payment may be for a longer or shorter period than you asked for. This is to bring you on to a regular payment cycle. We will tell you when the first payment will be made and how much it is for"

They didn't tell me. That's why I raised the query. Thank to all
