cleaning steam generator irons

does anyone has any ideas? our keep releasing all this unpleasant yucky brown stuff...someone said it was limescale? is it? is there a way of cleaning it out of the system and hopefully avoiding it building up again? any help would be very much appreciated!

Hi red! My generator came with instructions to clean every 10 uses:rolleyes: Some hope, but I do clean it fairly regularly:D There's a cap that unscrews on the side of the base unit. You empty the water out, refill with clean water, give it a shake from side to side, then shake the water out. You'll be amazed at the muck that comes out. I redo this a couple of times or so, until nothing is shaking out. Once you've done this it doesn't "spit" the muck out anymore. Regular cleaning keeps it under control. I don't think it's recommended to use descalers on steam generators.

thanks churchmouse (excellent name!) i will look to see if there is a cap....not sure if there is, but then i've not been exactly very good about keeping it clean!!! hopefully this will sort it all out!

hi i have had the same problem with my generator, it is a russell hobs one model 14196. it now isnt steaming very well either. ive put a new filter in. also lost the manual. can anyone help??
