Huge bank charges

Hi, not posted on here before.
I was just wondering if anyone had any advice about bank charges. Our bank is charging us £300 this month after most of our direct debits failed (they went through 2nd attempt)
I know they are valid charges but these charges are going to have a knock on effect for this month and then probably the month after too causing more charges. Catch 22.
It all started when out tax credits were dramatically reduced after they told us we had been overpaid last year. They have increased them again after numerous phone calls so we would be able to get back on track if it wasn't for these charges.
Anyone had any experience of banks reducing charges?
Its so frustrating as we got ourselves out of debt a year ago and don't want to go back there.

First step is to try and reason with them on the phone, but remain strong and state that if they continue to apply charges that you will end up in a downward debt spiral. They might stop them out of "goodwill" If they subscribe to the Banking Code of Practice (you can find this out on their T's and C's on their website) then they have a responsibility to help you out and be sympathetic if you are in financial distress.
The next step is to go to https://www.bankchargeshell.co.uk, sign up to the forum and start asking for advice on there. I racked up £821 in charges with the Woolwich last year after a sticky patch. Got the lot back earlier this year and kept my account with them after a rocky fight. Couldn't have done it without the help of that forum.

I had something similar happen this year, I get paid on the the 15th of each month and all my Direct Debits come out on that day, but for some reason my firm had a problem when they sent the payroll and it didnt go into my account until the afternoon of the 15th I bank with the Nationwide and they take all the direct debits out after 12.00 on the 15th, so even though my money was in on that day I still incurred £185 bank charges, I got a letter from work and they refunded all the charges.
Write them a letter explain your circumstances.
Good Luck

I rang my bank last month when i had about £70 worth of charges, after i explained my situation they said there was nothing they could do
Today i have had another £76 worth of charges, bounced cheques
So i Thought might as well ring them again to see if they would drop the charges. If you dont as you dont get
To my complete surprise they dropped the charges today :j
I think it all depends on who you speak to, if there nice they will do something for you, if there like the women from little britain they she will say COMPUTER SAYS NO !!!0
