Changing dates of direct debits! Why so awkward?
My partner and I have both started new jobs within the same month, and therefore have a very difficult month without wages coming in.
So, we are in the process of rearranging all of our direct debits and standing orders so that instead of coming out on the 22nd, they will now be coming out on the 1st.
However, we have a loan with our bank (HSBC), and we have called them, and been into the branch, to try and change the date.
They initially said no, because it takes us into November (even though it's only 9 days later, and we aren't planning on defaulting on payments or anything, we still want to pay them), and they want October's payment.
We've explained that during October, we have no money in to pay it, and we don't get paid now until 1st November.
Then, we realised that 1st November was a Saturday, so we asked how about we pay it on 31st October as that will be when our first wage comes this month, and then pay November's on the 15th November (which is when I get my first wage), and then set it up for 1st December and the 1st of the month from then on.
No - they don't like this idea either.
What on earth are we supposed to do in this situation???
We want to pay them, we don't want them to try and take the money when it is not in our account, yet they won't help us to sort it out! We simply want to change the date we pay, surely we are within our rights to do this?
I can't help but feel that this is their way of making more money from us, and they're being absolutely awkward and ridiculous on purpose to cause us to default on the loan.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks!

 Hi there
I see that you have already tried to asked about changing the dates of direct debits.
Sorry they are not giving in to your needs.
Is there anyone higher you can ask hun ?
Maybe if you both could take some clarification to prove this to the bank of when you both next get paid, perhaps they may back down, I don't know but they do not seem to be very understanding or lenient do they ?
If this is a big concern right now, where I can understand where your coming from, I would try to get some advice about this as soon as you can, I do know the CAB can often try to help with these banks and contact them to make these arrangements for you. It maybe worth trying them, if your lucky enough for them to deal with you immediately as I understand they sometimes run on an appointment basis and if working it can be impossible.
If you do have time to go into the bank directly I would do that, they tend to fob off on the phone, yet they will be quick enough taking money from us !!!!
I hope they sort this out for you anyway, good luck !
 Di.
