boots 3 for 2 deals

does anyone know how to work out the best way to get the most savings from these 3 for 2 deals on christmas presents?
we have been talking about it but cant get my head round how to save the most money?
is it best buying 3 at a time and keep going back to checkout?
or putting most expensive together etc etc

any thoughts?
mmmm free stufffffffff :p

As far as I know if you buy, for example, 6 items, all different prices, the 2 cheapest items will be taken off, regardless of the order you put them through the till. For more expert advice try asking on the Boots Grabbit Bargins part 40 sticky thread over on Quick Grabbit While You Can. (sorry not got the hang of links yet!) hth

It used to be that they went through as the three most expensive, then the next three so it wasn't the cheapest two items that were free. but with Boots giving out £5 no 7 vouchers it's worth doing several transactions...and remember Christmas shopping evenings for extra points.
  • yes its still the cheapest is free.
but is it best to get 2 expensive and 1 cheap or 1 expensive and 2 similar etc etc . i just cant get my head round it!
im going to post this in the boots thread lke minimononeyme said

I would make a note of what I wanted and the price and then get three similar priced items at a time.

e.g if you wanted 3 items at £20, 3 at £10 and 3 at £5 it would cost £70 if you went through the tills three times but would cost £90 if they went through together.
  • No it would cost £70 even if you put them through together. The till puts the items in order of price and takes off every third one so you would get one £20, one £10 and one £5 free. The only advantage of putting them through seperately is that for each transaction you may get a ' special offer' voucher, e.g £5 off No7, and you would only get one if you put them all together but 3 if you did them seperately.

Thanks. I didn't realise Boots worked like that. I'm impressed, I don't know many shops who would do this. It'll save me a lot of time when I do my Xmas shopping.

yes, the till gives you the best deal. I tried it last year when I was spending more than £50 in total, so on the christmas shopping event I put it all through in one transaction, to get the 1000 points back and the till worked it out for me and i paid the same as i would have if i'd done 3 transactions. the 1000 points were then used to buy 3 more £5 gifts because the 3 for 2 works when you're using points.
