Hiya all, could you help out my friend?
We were putting in an offer on a house and carpetright said we could get a free estimate.[we were only looking round the store] We explained that we hadn't bought the house and they said that was okay.
Cut a long story short! We took the estimate back and they said that when we were ready to order to come in. Meanwhile we could go to a store nearer to us and pick one out and they should phone through our choice. Well the branch we went to refused to phone it through and I went off to get a takeaway for us and they asked my husband for his credit card. He only has a visa debit card and they took that and asked him for his pin number. He had it written down. Well, they charged £1200 to his card but this is the thing----he has alzheimers and I never leave him alone in a shop if we are buying anything. I didn't know they had charged him until the bank statement came in.
They didn't buy the house in the end, and carpetwrong basically said 'tough'

My heart goes out to you, my mother had Alzheimer's. If your husband has been diagnosed i think you will find that, now this sounds quite cruel, that he is not mentally responsible for anything that he does such as voting, my mother lost the right to vote, or banking. See a solicitor as the company are in the wrong here, legally. Don't give up contact one of the alzheimer groups for the uk which you'll find on the net, google for it, sorry i cant remember which it is, and they will help you to fight this and as the other poster has said contact the bank as there are serious legal implications here and also a call to your local police station may help as well.
I wish you well as i know how hard it is to care for someone with this illness, even if the person is easy to care for, hugs0 -
The fact that the PIN has been disclosed should be reported to the card issuer.
They'll probably put a STOP on the card and issue a new card and PIN.0
