baby due in 6 weeks, will threats arrive then too?

Hi all

Would really appreciate guidence...

Started DMP with CCCS in June/July, owe £14700, £13000 loan and £1700 cc. Nobody will confirm that intrest has been frozen but it is assumed by cccs.

I have had no phone calls or particularly nasty letters, but just got letter from cc co saying that the 3 month "trial" period of reduced payments is coming to an end and they will be officially defaulting me and passing the debt on.

Bricking it now. My baby is due in 6 weeks, can I expect to be bombarded with threats while recovering from caesarian? Really worried. It has been so smooth so far, felt like a normal human being for the first time in years...

Try not to worry too much.
Just refer any phone calls to the CCCS.
Relax & I hope all goes well with the baby :)

I would give CCCS a call to make them aware of the letter and to ask if there is anything you should do or be aware of (I doubt it, but worth contacting them).

If you receive phone calls regarding the debt, do not confirm any security details and inform them that all communication should be in writing. There are template letters available here if required.

Don't panic...and don't let this ruin your last weeks of pregnancy for you!!!

In my experience, its better when the debts are passed on. Two of my debts were passed to DCA's when I entered into a DMP and they have been more helpful and understanding than the original creditors! They send me statements each month telling me how much I've paid etc (which my original creditors NEVER do) .

Just try and enjoy this last few weeks of your pregnancy, don't worry, and look forward to the birth!

    Good luck

    Good luck with the baby.

Yep, as others have said, do not answer the phone and if you do, don't answer their security questions but give them your CCCS ref no, say you will only deal in writing and hang up. Mostly, just ignore the phone. It's a pain but they only need one method of contact for you and that can be in writing if necessary. You can send them the telephone harrassment letter.

As MissP has said, believe it or not, I've had better results when the debts were passed to DCA's. In fact, CCCS wrote to me to tell me that one of my debts had been passed on (apparently the original creditor had contacted CCCS to tell them and not me, so the harrassment letter does work!) and since then (April) I've not heard from the DCA but CCCS told me that they had frozen interest and charges on my account which is more than the OC did!

Good luck with everything and keep posting.

  • Thanks everyone, just worrying as I still haven't told my husband (I know I know) and he'l be dying to pick up the phone to keep everyone informed and if it's some awful threatening person at the other end....

This sounds strange but I've so enjoyed the last few months of making my payments, in full and on time, not feeling like I was treading water. It has been lovely to find that although I am on a very tight budget, I can make it stretch and take pleasure in little treats. Enjoyed being frugal, I'm obviously a real tight wad at heart!!

Anyway...will try to relax and enjoy the pregnancy-its a 10lber apparently so not sure I'l enjoy the birth...!

Thanks again to everyone who has avice for me.
  • hi

I used to deal with the ccc's alot when i worked as a debt collector. The ccc's do ask all of your creditors to freeze the interest although this isn't always done. However as you are paying minimum payments to your creditors they will eventually default and then your interest will be frozen. Creditors will still try and contact you if they don't consider your offer of payment to be enough, however because you are dealing with the ccc's there is nothing they can do about it, and they will not be able to take you to court either because you have shown what you can afford. Just make sure you stick to the payment plan you have with the ccc's each month. If you are ever struggling to make a payment to the ccc's, call them and pay what you can although don't do this too often.
You may find that you get a letter from a different collection agency if one of your debts is sold, just make sure that you send them a copy of your income and expenditure with your offer of payment, and call the ccc's to inform them.
