Refreshing... or the norm?

Hi everyone

I took a call on my mobile this morning from an 0845 number that has been ringing me 5-6 times a day for the past week - each time I ignored the call I got a message saying that I should call another 0845 number to stop any further calls - when I googled this number there were indications that it might be a scam.

However I took the call today, in error if I am honest, and it was one of my credit card companies. I explained that I was speaking to the CCCS, and am out of work for a month or two. They were really helpful. They said if I can make a payment in 60 days, they will freeze the account and no more calls. Works for me. I didn't say I will hopefully be BR in less than that, but I must say when the call started I was expecting a really hard time and it just didn't happen.

Is this the norm, or a refreshing change?

I am not so sure. The banks and credit card companies that have called me have been pretty good as soon as I mentioned the CCCS and have all offered to give me leeway. M&S gave offered me 60days and Lloyds gave me 4months to work things out. It's the agencies that have been downright rude and aggressive about things.
Still, I think my bank and CC company may be running out of patience with me so that opinion may change before I actually get to my BR date!:D

  • I think I am being a little naive...

However, if I refuse to answer the phone until I am BR - perhaps it will be the last I hear from them!

to be honest, most of my creditors wouldn't stop calling so even when i told them cccs were dealing so I would say that if they stick to their word, it is a refreshing change. We ended actually changing our telephone number (twice!) because they managed to get hold of it even after changed it. So we changed back to BT and went ex-directory. That didn't even stop one and somehow they got the new ex dir number. But since they phoned and asked for me by my maiden name, I just said there was no such person on this number and that they were calling the wrong address too. ;)

So I had no more calls since then. Take it with a pinch of salt and if they stick to their word to not call you for 60 days, then you are lucky to have a better than average creditor. :D

  • The longest leeway I had from cc companies ringing was 10 days, but one loan company did allow a 3 month payment holiday when i wrote that I was in problems. I did go BR before this was up, and wrote to them advising, they sent a nice reply saying they had noted this position and would contact the OR. That was Barclays on a career development loan.

Most cc companies ignored my letters about things tbh.
