How do I stop Creditor Calls At work.

Options
I will be booking my Court date by the end of the week and I have already stopped paying the credit cards. Today out of the blue a phone call directly to my desk at work from a credit card company, I was firm and and said I can't talk because I'm at work and that I would be contacting them in writing in the next few days to explain the situation. The caller kept making demands and I kept repeating my statement, in the end the caller put the phone down! Does anyone know how I can stop them calling me at work. I know it's fair game to try but the job's only just hanging in there as it is and I don't think this will be allowed to go on. Any ideas?

There is a template letter somewhere to send to try and stop the harrasment. If they phone again refuse to answer the security questions and say you want all communication in writing and then put the phone down. Do not enter into any conversation with them.

Will try and find link to the letter for you.

Here we go, you will need to adjust to suit you but it will give you an idea. Send it recorded delivery so you can prove it was recieved.

    Date.

    Your name
    Your address

    Dear Sir / Madam

    Re: Account Number xxxxxxxxxx

I am writing to express my serious concerns regarding the telephone calls that I have received from your company.

I am now formally requesting that all further correspondence be made in writing only.

I demand that these phone calls stop immediately. I am familiar with the terms of Section 40 of the Administration of Justice Act 1970, and the Protection from Harassment Act 1970 and I believe your harassment places you in breach of these acts.

If you continue to call, you will also be in breach of the Wireless Telegraphy Act (1949) and, as such, I will report you to both Trading Standards and The Office of Fair Trading.

Take further note that continued telephone calls after the receipt of a request not to call may constitute a criminal offence under Section 127 of the Communications Act 2003.
You will be deemed to have been served notice of my request and I will deem it served by FULL DATE, I am advising you that any calls received after this date will be recorded with the intention of them being used as evidence.

    Yours faithfully,

  • hi when we get calls and they ask for OH i always say whos calling please then just hang up if its them.
then the same the next day and the same after that.
but if OH answers the phone he will listen to them and talk to them instead of just hanging up , he gets wrong off me if i catch him though. he has been warned off me and the CAB to hang up as soon as they say who they are.

Very difficult when in work, I sympathise with you. Hang up, if they call back say a letter of complaint is in the post, and send the letter tomorrow Dee has put up. It is harrassment and you do not need that at work.

If they call and you do not want to hang up, tell them sorry I am NOT ALLOWED to take personal calls in work, and I have sent a letter of complaint, dont listen to any replies put the phone down.

Bloody vultures these people they really are.

  • Thanks for the suggestions, the letter looks good. I was going to write to all my creditors at the weekend to let them know I will be going bankrupt in a couple of weeks. Not sure now if that's a good idea now as it it might spur them on to try and get some money out of me! As far as I can see this is just the start, I hope it's all done an dusted before they start knocking on the front door though.

The worst thing is I work in a big open plan office I was so embarrassed.

No don't tell them anything at all or as you suspect they will up the pressure.

Another tactic is if they ring you just tell them you are taking advice from CCCS/NDL/CAB (delete as necesary) and someone will be in touch when things are sorted. Not a lie as the OR will be in touch when it is sorted and telling them you are bankrupt :D

I really wouldn't waste the time or the postage to send them anything. They will ignore it anyway. Just hang in there until your OR date. I put up with it for 11 months and still here to tell the tale. If you can, unplug your house phone from 8am-9pm to avoid calls and don't answer any 0845 numbers on your mobile. MBNA were a bit crafty and started calling my mobile from a mobile nmber to get me to pick up - OUCH!

I work in an open office as well, and you just cannot take this type of call.

AND do not tell your creditors anything right now! they will up the pressure on you and you do not need that, I know I am under pressure right now, threatening to call here etc in person, it is unnerving and stressful.

  • Yep we're going through the same especially with MBNA who keep hounding my husband at work, Open office,, all can hear... grrrr. I tell him to hang up - he is still being 'too nice' to them. (then getting himself stressed out) all they want is money, they are not going to get it by phoning so why on earth don't they back off.
  • Some companies don't give a damn, and its plain wrong. My wife used my mobile to call a DCA then they kept calling me, even after they knew it wasn't the wife's mobile, one day i had my some colleges in the car and the DCA ring and start spouting off at me and even swore at me. I sent them a strongly worded letter and recieved communication back from there solicitor to which i replied and we've noit heard from them since, nearly 3 years now.
