Personal Loan - When is a good time to apply? What are my chances?

I have been looking at getting a loan for £18,000 for a little while now but with everything that is happening with the banks and current financial climate is now a good time to apply for a loan or shall I give it a few weeks for everything to settle down?

My current details are self employed earning 35k a year

2 credit cards - 1 gets paid off every month 2000 limit, the other I'm in and out of and sometimes doesn't get fully paid off 1400 limit

Overdraft £500 but rarley used

Home Owner

No other loans

My credit is very good and just got a score of 986 on credit expert, the only small blemish is 2 missed payments in a row a year ago on the mortgage from my partners account, which in fact was a mix up that was the mortgage company's fault an I am trying to get them to removed the missed payments from my credit history but I have been back and forth with them for the last 2 months so don't expect this to be sorted before I want the loan.

What do you rekon my chances are, I don't want to try now and get a footprint on my credit file to be told I should have waited a few weeks and then have to apply again as I am told applying for credit too many times in a short period can effect you aswell.

Any opinions/advice welcome :)

I don't think that waiting a few weeks will make any difference. The current credit crisis will take a lot longer than that to settle.
    :p
  • Well that's a bit of good news! Decided to call the mortgage company again and kick off , and after all my arguing they have finally agreed that it was their fault and to remove both missed payment marks from mine and my partners credit file :):):)

So my credit file is now perfect, I can easily afford the payments which can be verified against my bank statements, does it look hopeful? Any one with some inside knowledge?

    Thanks
