debt from marriage

my wife went back to her country without telling me before.
she left her bank account overdraft, a couple thousands pounds on her credit card to pay and a few hundreds pounds of debt on a catalogue. as we are still married i am very concerned about it.
could the debt collectors make me pay her debts despite being in her name ???

I believe they cant make you pay if the debt was in her name and you didnt sign anything to say it was in joint names.

No they cannot make you pay, although they will probably try. They may even try bullying tactics. There was another thread here a while ago that had some posts on this subject (I think it had wandered off topic). I will see if I can find it and post the link.
