Is this worth having or are LCD TVs boringly reliable?

I did notice that LCD TVs with integrated DVD, the DVD is only guaranteed for 2 years and the TV 5 years.

I would say it's definitely worth having. Anything can go wrong during manufacturing/QA process that is not picked up, so even if 99% of time they last over 5 years, I would prefer to pay a little extra for 5 years of peace of mind.
Try getting JL to price match other stores so you get the best price & service from them.

when i asked JL about price match they do not price match online retailers.

its not often u will find a bargain in there. Best to shop around elsewhere and use a nationwide credit card to get an extra 1yr warranty on your TV for free!

I've no idea what JL charge, but the main problem with extended warranties over this length of term is that the price of LCD's etc are always decreasing, so what you pay extra for the warranty now, could turn out to be a fair chunk towards a similar spec telly in 3 years time anyway.

jl give out a free 5 year warranty with the tv you buy from them, that is why a price match and then buy from them is the best way to buy an expensive tv.

AVforums has a thread running where people have listed the model of TV they have bought and which shop they have got JL to price match against so others can do the same.

Costco has a three year warranty with every TV without extra cost
