Welcome Finance - Voluntary Termination

Hi all,

The 28th of September was the half-way mark for my HP agreement on my car. I have taken the decision to voluntary terminate the agreement and I wrote to Welcome Finance on 2nd October 2008. I heard nothing for some time. I telephoned them and was informed that they had received my letter and then proceeded to, I shan't say lie, tell some facts about returning which wern't true. Being fairly up to date with my rights under the agreement I wasn't having any of it and stuck to my guns. Eventually they said they would arrange collection of the car and said a collection company would be in touch. That is the last I have heard from them.

I am concerned that we are approaching another payment date and they do not appear to be taking any action to recover the vehicle. My whole reason for doing this is so we can have extra money every month and I'm also acutely aware that I am not entitled to a refund of any over-payments.

Can I cancel the direct debit? The letter was sent by recorded delivery. What can I do to get them to act? I hate talking to them on the phone as they try to a. flog you more finance, b. tell you how low your credit rating is going to dip because you won't be completing the loan period.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Cheers.

  • Is there an office local to you where you can take the car back yourself?

Yes, about 20 miles away. The car is untaxed at the moment (SORN), I assume I would have to tax it and just lose the money?

  • Do you know any local motor dealers who would let you borrow trade plates for half a day?

Or, do you know anyone who has a low loader that could transport it?

Not worth taxing it I think

If you did take it back you would need to give them a copy of the vt letter, the keys and documents and V5, mot etc.

Otherwise find out which company is doing the collection and ring them directly and arrange a time when they can collect?

Is it really that simple? I could turn up at their offices with the car, documents and keys and hand them over?

I don't know who is doing the collecting as I have had nothing from them whatsover. Apart from an acknoledgement of my letter and a telephone call saying someone would be in touch.

  • You could phone the office first to advise them of your intentions - see what they say?

If you are vt'ing they have to accept it back at their office - it is unreasonable otherwise.

You could ask them who is the collection agent and go the other route.

If you can cancel the DD at your bank it is probably wise to do so and then advise Welcome
