Self employment & the cars

Morning all
A couple of new questions if anyone would be so kind as to advise please? My heads ready for exploding with all the different ideas and thoughts for how we can clear up this god awful mess so please bear with me.
1) Once on a DMP is it possible to become self employed?
2)We have two cars at the moment and have little choice for now. One of them is on HP and you cannot legally sell a car as long as it has an outstanding HP on it and we obviously cant raise the cash to clear that HP to allow us to sell the car:mad: . So my question on this is can you simply ring the HP firm up and tell them to fetch the car and stop the payments and if so what are the implications?
Our credit ratings are good now but in a week or two they will be trashed so any further implications on those from repo doesn't bother me its just something we have to get used to.
Cheers
