Self Assessment Question

in Cutting tax
Hi all,
just looking for a bit of advice about self assessment. My DH is a black cab driver and last year we had an accountant work out our tax for us and sent in a paper form but this year I was thinking about doing it online.
We would still be using an accountant to work his taxes out for us as it's too complicated for us to work out but would this make any difference to doing it online.
Last year the accountant filled in the form for us and he just signed and posted it but is the information we need for online taxes any different to what is needed for the paper form or is it basically the same form.
He is running out of time for the online form so any help would be great.
Thanks in advance.

I don't see what you are going to gain by doing the return yourself if the accountant is drawing up the accounts which form the basis of the self assessment, and then doing the tax calculation for you!£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

It was really just to gain the extra time to see the accountant, if we do it on paper he has to go see him this week but if we do it online we could put it off till next month.
The accountant wants paid upfront and this has been a pretty bad month so it would help if we could put it off till next month.0 -
I'm trying to understand this - have you asked your accountant if they can file Tax Returns online?I am an Accountant. Sorry if i'm not explaining it very well.
Last year we went to our accountant with his receipts and he worked out our taxes for us and filled in the returns form which my DH signed and posted.
This year I was thinking about registering for online but as i'm not sure about all the different allowances he can claim for he was going to ask the accountant to do his returns for him again and I could then use the figures he gives me to do the online form.
What I was wondering is if the online form asks the same questions as the paper form or would it just be best to get the accountant to fill in the paper form again.
The only reason I was going to change to online was so that I could see his account at any time and make payments throughout the year rather than wait till the deadline, and also because we have to pay the accountant up front and as this hasn't been a very good month then it would have helped me to be able to put it off till next month as he's due a fair amount of money from the accounts work that he does in the taxi which is only paid to him every 5/6 weeks.
Hope this makes it a bit clearer, not very good at explaining things, sorry.0 -

The online form asks the same questions as the paper return.
Why would you want to make payments throughout the year, open a savings account and put the money in there until nearer the deadline.I am an Accountant.
