Dont be ashamed to use hand me downs and shop in second hand shops. Babies use their equipment and wear their clothes for such a short time that it really isnt worth paying out full price for them.

We need 2 cars unfortuantly as we both work in different places and I will be going back to work after the baby. Also my partner is a flying instructor at weekends (he dosnt get paid for this- its volunteer work) and the drive there is about an hour each way. As we live in the middle of nowhere I need my car to get out and about at weekends eg to visit family etc.
£60 on mobiles is about £30 on each mobile. I suppose we could think about sharing a mobile but we do like to talk to each other! I will definatly look into it though- as we dont seem to use them that much.

It looks like you are in a similar situation to me! :p Baby due on 1st of April, PhD graduation when I am eight months pregnant, my partner has his private pilots licence and spends many weekend hours at the airport.... Plus I live in the middle of knowhere and we need two cars too! I'm just trying to think of all the ways I can spend the child benefit which is the only thing I am entitled too

Ebay is a brilliant site for buying bulk items of baby clothing and I think the national child birth trust also have sales sometimes. Register with the boots parenting club and you will get freebies for pampering yourself.

Re-returning to work. Have you checked whether you're eligible for childcare help via tax credits. Try here www.entitledto.com. If you don't qualify, ask your employers if they do childcare vouchers. If they do you can salary sacrifice upto £50 a week in return for vouchers. The money sacrificed is tax and NI free. If both employers offer them, you can both salary sacrifice upto £50 a week for the same child.
  • Wow roxielx we sounds in very much the same situation! Our baby is due at the beginning of April also- the 6th! I have just today started buying some things for the baby- I bought 6 vests for £1.75 off Ebay and a coat for £1!!! Bargain hunting!!

Although we have bought the furniture new and also the travel system I have picked up a lot of new designer/tagged items and baby gift sets in local charity shops too. Usually around christmas or shortly after people will get lots of baby items which will be the wrong size and also if you are lucky you can get nearly new baby toys. You also get to benefit charity in this way. We have also been to car boot sales were we have bought more toys.....

  • just wanted to wish you all the best of luck with your April babies. My best friend will be having her second baby in April too.

My husband and I are trying to muster enthusiasm for having a family. To be honest, I'm terrified of being a mum! I'm 30 and still £9000 in debt.

granted it is terrifing while being pregnant. i have 2 children. i had a daugther at 22 and a son at 23. so very close together. while pregnant i was so scared and couldnt believe i was gonna be a mum and responsile for a little person.

but trust me as soon as baby is born and in your arms. you forget all your worries and just fill up with love for your little bundle of joy. it is overwhelming. but amazing
