Did you directly ask about it?

    Hi All,

Read this thread with interest as nearly bought one it appears that I made a Good Decision Most of Aldis offers are good but sometimes the quality lets you down I bought a 5mp Digital camera and it fell apart in 3 weeks. I have to say their return policy is normally excellant I took the camera back and bought a Sony more money but no comparison.

With regard to the freeview pvr box it may be worth having a look at this one the Ferguson FPVR1T see review here after reding the review and checking the price I bought one well impressed works out the box easy to use and very quiet.

Your contract is still with the retailer, so whatever terms they sold you the item under still stand.
  • Just spoke to CS, they took my details and stated that I would get a replacement at the end of December / begining of Jan. I asked about the transmitted update, he stated that it was a rumour and had not been confirmed.

I was going to take this back to ALDI`s, but i think i`ll hang on to it for a bit longer to see if the replacement arrives.

    PROVISIONAL UPDATE

Just checked the DTG site and they are showing an update as follows:

    Technotrend PVR

    Start 29-12-05 10am
    End 31-12-05 9am

NB - Status is described as provisional.

It seems reasonable to assume that 'Technotrend' is Technosonic, although the 'provisional' bit is slightly worrying!

    Happy Xmas all.

This probably means that they haven't written it yet.

I guess it's possible they got the company name wrong, and gives me some hope.

Do "Technotrend" actually make a PVR? a *quick* Google only shows some german DVB stuff, not freeview compatible, and some PC PVR stuff that I think wouldn't use OTA upgrades, so maybe they do mean technosonic.
  • Finally, I have succeeded in speaking to someone on the helpline number - the info I have preened is this:

    - they only got their hands on a machine last Thursday, same as us, so it's a bit new to them too.
    - they are trying to find the best/most efficient/cheapest solution and will deliver that when they know what is involved, it may be an ota update or it may involve a swap.
    - they were wondering if the 'No Signal' issue was caused by a weak aerial signal. I did point out that I can still record a programme even with the machine in this condition which would indicate a different problem.

I was told that they will contact me once the remedy has been determined.

I would recommend, to anyone who hasn't done so already, contacting the helpline and register you machine as faulty in case they decide to ship out replacements. It will also help to confirm that the problem is widespread (universal I would say) and not restricted to weak reception areas (this wouldn't be the cause of the Lost & Found recordings problem anyway).

As I thought, the clashing remotes problem I have (Toshiba TV) is unlikey to be rectified as this is more of a hardware issue caused by 'the manufacturers not talking to each other'.

  • on this board, buying a *new* pvr for £100 that is so full of bugs that it is useless, and kidding themselves that they can *live* with it or figure out a workaround to compensate for its failings. Don't kid yourselves: NO software update to fix the myriad bugs and no, TechnoTrend is NOT Technosonic although some *assume* that it must be.
Take your Technosonics back to Aldi, buy a working Fusion 200 instead.
