Joint Unsecured Loan

My wife and I have an unsecured loan which I have been paying back each month.
Due to personal reasons, I am now only able to afford a lower monthly payment.
I have written to the loan company offering this lower monthly payment and am awaiting a reply.
I am working in Thailand and my wife is working in the UK on a 12 months contract and on completion (April 09) she will be joining me here in Thailand.
My question is, if the loan company does not accept my lower payment are they legally bound to recover the debt from my wife in the UK? The loan was orginally taken out at the address in the UK where my wife currently resides.
Any advice or information would be appreciated.
