I have been doing lots of research into to buying satnav for my car. It will just get occaisonal use and not wanting to spend too much I am very keen on the Garmin i3 which has good reviews. However I keep hearing that the Tom Tom's are very good but how much better? Is it worth spending the extras £50-60 for a Tom Tom one or is it not worth it?

We were out recently with some friends who have a Tom Tom, and they were using it to show us how it worked to get us from A to B. However, it did not recognise a recent road diversion and if these friends had not already known how to get around the diversion themselves then they would have been a little stuck. You can download updates to keep them relatively up to date, but we were told that an update was not yet available.
Moral of the story - these gadgets are not foolproof!0
