Nationwide Carrot on a long string...?

Nationwide are offering a £50 'Lure' if you transfer an existing Loan from a Bank on their list providing you fulfil certain criteria...most are easy to match..

I did the business moving a loan from First Direct (A Division of HSBC) and duly applied for the £50.....only to be refused as it wasn't on their list!

Now as far as I'm aware, First Direct are not nor ever have been a Bank in their own right, they are, as it says on the bottom of all their Correspondence, a Division of HSBC!

I have disputed their decision and await their reply from an email that I sent a week ago

So....Buyer beware!

I will report back with the result if I ever get a reply...!

    Hi There,

Just registered on this forum after seeing this thread (been browsing for weeks).
I have a loan which I transferred to Nationwide and was offered this 'Lure'. Great I thought and it was easy to fill in. All they wanted was a Loan Settlement letter from Barclays (who I had the loan with before) and they would pay out. So got a letter from Barclaycard saying it had been settled etc and sent it off. About 2 weeks later get a letter back saying it wasn't a Loan settlement agreement figure - I had definatly sent it off.
I daren't go in to Barclays to ask for another after they have already gone to the effort of writing me one!
Oh well looks like I won't be getting my £50 because of their mistake :(

  • Just to update....

I gave up waiting for a reply via secure message....1st one over two weeks, the follow-up over a week now (so much for, "We will attempt to reply to you within two days") so phoned instead.

Spoke to a nice Lassie who said she would look into the problem and get back to me.....

She has, Apparently they view First Direct as a sister Company of HSBC stating that HSBC will have paid for and set up First Direct but it's still supposedy a seperate company!

Well I know for a fact that HSBC didn't set up First Direct, it was part of the Midland bank I believe, so they got that wrong...

I still maintain that it is not a seperate company, they clearly state at the foot of all Corres. it's a Division of HSBC...as it does at the foot of the Home page online

She's gone off with a Flea in her ear...and says that she will make further enquiries and get back to me.....

  • Result...... :j

They have conceeded, after contacting HSBC themselves, that First Direct is indeed part of the Bank and not a "Sister Company"....

£50 winging it's way now, all because I stood my ground.... ;)

'Munday'....try ringing 'Fonnie' on this number 01473 580627 in Customer services and explain your situation....she may be able to help...you don't get if you don't ask... ;)

It certainly will be a :xmassign: now.... :p
