Royal Mail ( No payrise since 1996)

Finding it difficult to understand the inner workings of royal mail that seem to be very much behind the times
A postman gets a wage for delivering mail during a shift
A postman gets paid extra for delivering D2D items (junk mail) during same shift.
I'd expect a postman to delivery what was phyically possible during their shift for a set wage - if the extra's can't phyically be fitted in during a shift then alternative arrangements are made whether that be overtime, time off in leiu, a little bit of goodwill on both sides or additional staff0 -
well you see its not really that simple.
you see whilst you may say the if the postman doesnt have time then it should be covered by OT,time off etc
how about the managers who tell posties that as they get paid for them then the need to come in on their days off/early/stay late to do them?
the managers who push posties to ignore the bag weights matrix(health and safety weights) to get D2D's out?
if you go to a manager and say you cant finish your delivery in time due to D2D's you will be told where to go i can assure you
if you cut that mail to finish the D2D's then you are at risk of wilful delay.
a sackable offence
i could continue,RM run a hostile management style and in the present climate the office managers are under massive pressure to cut costs(read staff)
remember RM set the D2D system in place.
just to remind you, posties are human beings not machines.0 -
sounds like the RM is on the road to failure0

Considering posties are on 'job and knock' and always seem to be walking home before the time they're paid up to arrives, I'd say they appear to have no problem managing these deliveries. And now that we no longer have second post and first post can be anything up to 5pm, they have even more time for D2D.0 -

sorry but your a little misinformed
job & finish is being phased out so a moot point
target delivery time for urban deliveries is 2pm
if posties are always finished before their time them where are all the complaints about late post coming from?
you dont have 2nd post? your point?
the phasing out of the 2nd post wasnt done on its own.it was part of the whole 'way forward agreement' increasing the delivery span for posties/cutting staff.
this was set up years after the D2D agreement
now in my office for example the staffing has been massivly cut from this time.
so the indoor work has been ramped up,eg who do you think gets all the duties ready for the part time posties who come in later?
this is the time you would have made up your D2D items, yet this time has been massivly cut back
on delivery the posties all take out part of a 2nd duty as well.
so before the implementation of the phase 3 savings a duty was an agreed 3.5 hour delivery span.
now somehow it isnt and more mail can go out
you see the conflicts?0 -
Encourage all those on your round to opt out of the D2D, then you won't have to worry about not being paid enough to deliver them0
