He said: "There is a stand-off in many parts of the country between people who have got a house to sell and people who have got mortgage credit, and they cannot agree on a price."
He said this situation made it very difficult to assess when prices might bottom out.
So he predicts what could happen before adding that it's "very difficult" to predict. Classic.
Oh well, he got his name in the paper, well done.

EVERYONE is just guessing!
It does'nt matter what job or title you hold.
Some got it right and some wrong about how long prices would keep rising and the same about when they would start falling, and it'll be the same when they hit the bottom some will get it dead right and some dead wrong and everything inbetween.
NO ONE can guarantee they will be right.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. The one where you showed us Dithering Dad is a complete liar. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE Forum Team0 -

NO ONE can guarantee they will be right.David Miles, chief UK economist at Morgan Stanley and a former government advisor, said it could take a further 5% to 10% fall in prices for the market to "stabilise" and activity to pick up.
While warning this forecast was an "educated guess", Mr Miles - who is also a director of the Financial Services Authority - said this level of decline may be needed to move beyond the current "very awkward period" in which many people were shunning the market because they expected prices to fall further.

what did they used to say? 'If you can't fight wear a big hat'
Well I can fight in Judo, unarmed combat, lots of fire arms and knifes. I also don't wear a hat. From where I'm from a hat is a derogatory term, certain people with a certain military attendance will know (only 3 groups in the military who aren't hats). Hope that helps.:rotfl::exclamatiScams - Shared Equity, Shared Ownership, Newbuy, Firstbuy and Help to Buy.

Yup, nobody really knows for sure what will happen.
However, we can extrapolate from history what COULD happen.
My guess - and only my opinion - is that the FTSE and most other money markets will see further significant falls, and, like GG, that house prices will fall, depending on location, by between 40 and 60% from peak.
Oh, and inflation is likely to increase significantly in the next couple of years as the Govt inflates away their international debts. If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.
