Received a letter from Abbey...help!

I received a letter from Abbey yesterday stating that I should respond within 7 days to make satisfactory arrangements to clear the arrears (approx £2700) or my mortgage account will be referred to their legal department. It is dated the 7th so I have to respond by today!!! It also states that I will be liable for legal fees and costs (£500 minimum) if it is necessary to continue proceedings.
What do I do? I have a telephone interview with a CCCS mortgage advisor on Friday.
