Out of Date Gift Vouchers

I've no idea if this is the right place to post this.
DD got £60 of gift vouchers last Christmas for the shoe store Office. No idea why she didn't make the effort to use them until now, but they expired five weeks ago.
We went to the store today and tried to use them, but the assistant noticed they were out of date and said we couldn't use them. We didn't make a fuss, just asked for the address of their head office.
It does say on them the date of expiry, so I suppose they would be within their rights to refuse the use of them. Has this ever happened to anyone else and what do you think the chances are of having them re-issued?

Surely if there is no date on them for when they expire they should be everlasting ones?

My mum had the same problem at superdug. She asked to speak to the manager and explained how disappointed she was because the vouchers had been paid for in cash and if they didn't honour them then it was a little dishonest on the shops behalf: taking money for goods not supplied. They saw her point and let her spend them. I don't know whether they have to though, I'd ring head office and try to appeal to their better nature?0

There is an expiry date on them, but DD is not the best at noticing things. They expired about 5 weeks ago. I am going to write to the head office and see if they will re-issue as a gesture of goodwill.
She was going to buy a pair of boots costing £120, so she would have been giving them another £60, so they lost the sale.0 -
Next vouchers have an expiry, usually a year, once expired you can send them back to next and they will re-issue new ones! So maybe they will!0

Inspired by what Helen21 said, I returned the vouchers by recorded delivery with a very simple letter asking them to re-issue. Lo and behold they were returned to her today re-issued with an expiry date of May 2006. Result!!!
Thank you Helen21 for putting the idea in my head.
We were told in the shop that it wasn't worth trying to do anything because they were out of date and that was that. The shop assistant even checked with the manageress.
