Quidco Payment

I recently used quidco to sign up for British Gas (during the week Martyn Lewis was warning everyone to cap). I signed up, then found out I could get a better deal from Scottish Power.

I had to ring B.Gas to explain I didn't want the gas/elec and I eventually had a letter from them explaining that it had been withdrawn.

Today, I noticed a payment in my account from Quidco for £55. In my excitment, I quickly logged into Quidco to see that British Gas had paid me for not becoming a customer.

Does anybody know what will happen next? Will I be able to keep it? Would I have to pay it back?

Has anybody else had this experience?

Perhaps I should sign up again and cancel (lol)

  • I'd ask Quidco's advice.

Honesty is always the best policy and I personally would feel bad about keeping the money. :A

I had a similar situation but not with British Gas.

I placed an order for computer software from MacWarehouse through Quidco but I later cancelled it. For a few days the cashback still showed as tracked/validated before being removed without notice from my account. However that was when the 'money' was still with Quidco, not in my current account.

I would not be surprised however if British Gas requested a refund from Quidco, so, as the previous poster said, I would contact Quidco before they do!
If I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.
  • I've tended to ignore this sort of thing on the basis that a few things that I should get are turned down so the law of averages evens it up.

But I guess it's never been for any big amount of money, a couple of quid here and there...
  • I took out a Lloyds TSB car insurance policy a year ago last September (via a different cashback site), however when it tracked to my account 24 hours later the cash back had reduced from the offer of £120 to £90 (the offer had changed but not been updated on the site)as such I cancelled the policy (within the 14 day cooling off period) and took out a cheaper policy with a greater amount of cash back than had previously been available when I took out the policy with Lloyds. Much to my suprise and indeed delight, Lloyds still paid the £90.
