dmp question

Am worried about creditors requesting me to pay them before my dmp starts in Nov. have spoken to cccs and they have said just to send them another token payment for Oct. Lloyds and MBNA have accepted cccs offer of a lower payment but do not want to wait until the end of november for payment. They have said that if i dont send them the payment now they will not accept offer from dmp and will start interest payments again. I dont know what to do, i dont want them to withdraw my dmp payment, but also i cant afford to pay them now and them pay cccs nov 1st. any advice please?

    Hi

I would ignore them. They are just trying to threaten you into paying more. If you do, it may open a can of worms as they will expect more every month than you are offering on your dmp and CCCS may cancel the dmp arrangement. Just send them the token payments as suggested.

I'm on a dmp with CCCS and I had similar with a couple of my creditors. I just told them that I was paying all I could afford via CCCS, gave them my CCCS ref no and told them to contact CCCS to discuss this. Needless to say, they didn't!

  • They will do anything say anything to scare you into paying more like we won't accept this amount, we can't stop interest etc, don't even bother telling the creditors your plans over the phone, they will all receive your CCCS paperwork in due course.

My advice is to send them a token payment to cover this month anyway that way at least you have paid something even if it's a £1. I sent £2 postal orders to my creditors and I know it seems such a daft payment but it's more of a gesture of goodwill payment on your behalf rather than not paying anything until the DMP kicks in.

You will receive confusing letters for the next few months adding interest, stopping interest, asking to call your creditors immediately and you might even get phone calls BUT you have taken the first step in sorting your debt out by starting up a DMP and that is the most important thing to remember.

I won't lie and say it isn't scary entering into a DMP becuase if you have been a good payer up until now the guilt takes over and turns into worry because of the unknown. Don't give up, I promise it will get better once your DMP is set up and I promise in a few weeks/months time you will feel ready to fight all your creditors just like the rest of us :p

Don't worry and remember we are all here to help one another, stick with this site because the advice is invaluable and worth far more than any creditor will tell you ;)
