  • Trust me, I've looked and that's as cheap as my rent can get, My problem is that I have my 2 boys over the weekends and as they are aged 9 & 7, I need an extra bedroom for them.

My other travel costs is a monthly bus pass. I would walk to work but it's 6 miles. I've thought about getting a bike, it would cost money but would save me money long term.
  • have you got things you can sell on ebay to make some extra money ??

  • ok i have absolutly no experience regarding csa and i dont want to sound like i dont think you should pay towards your children but is that money set in stone? Is there any chance that you could pay less until times are easier?can you explain to csa your situation? Again i am not saying i think you should neglect them or anything, but just thinking surely it would be sensible if at all possible to pay less, clear your debts, and then pay more when financially secure?
  • Unfortunately that's set in stone until they are 18. So only another 11 years of £3000 a year. LOL!!

I wouldn't mind paying this if I knew that it went towards my children, but my ex is on benefits and her new partner earns a good wage, so my money is just extra spending money for them.

Alot of the debt I have is partly hers, but as it's all in my name, I have no case to make her pay it back. A mistake I won't make again that's for sure.

Can you reduce your grocery bill? Even for one person £100 is a bit high - go and look at moneysaving oldstyle board for tips on meal planning. Make a list of what you need before you go shopping and stick to it.

As said before - the entertainment bill is a bit steep and could be reduced - there are lots of cheap things that you can do with kids, or even free things such as walks in the woods or whatever.

Can you get a 0% balance transfer card and shift your credit card debts onto it? That way you would get 0% interest for a while which will give you some breathing space as long as you don't spend on it.
  • oh dear it sounds like you have been through a terrible time.

    other possibilities:

do you pay single person council tax?

Have you looked to see if you get cheaper utilities?
  • That's good advice, i'm going to have to stick to my food budget and stay in on fridays for a while.
