MacKenzie Hall

Hi

I've received a text message from my ex telling me he's been sent a letter for me from MacKenzie Hall asking me to call them regarding a 'personal matter'. I've found a couple of threads on here which are scaring the life out of me and I really don't know what to do! I don't have any debts at all that I know of so I can't imagine what they might be chasing. I've requested an up to date credit report but in the meantime what should I do? Should I ring them for more information or leave it be? I'm concerned that they will send him more letters, which I really don't want happening. We had a rather messy split in January and I didn't properly redirect my mail after I moved for several months; my concern is that I may have been sent letters regarding this which I've not received. Can anyone calm me down a bit? I'm having a bit of a mental breakdown here panicking about what is going on!

Thanks...

Marie

  • Hey firstly don't worry about the letter for now.

Ask your ex to forward the letter on to you, read it more in depth and then let us know what it says. Someone will be able to help with more info.

Most importantly do not phone them.

Check you credit file and relax is all the advice i can help. Once you know more then there are various avenues open to you and they can be explained in more depth once the letter is fully accesible to everyone.

Hope this helps in calming you down

    All the best

  • Thanks for the response. Have done some more research online and the general consensus seems to be that this is a phishing scam? I have asked the ex to send the letter on to me - which I really didn't want to do because now he has my address, ick. He and I had a shared bank account which he took his time in closing down (he was the main account holder and had all the details so I wasn't able to do it myself after the breakup) - if there were problems with this, might they write to me even though my name is no longer on there?

When you get copy of the letter , just write back using only their referance number , do not even sign your name . Say you are unaware of any debt and suggest they check with their clients . I had two letters about an alledged debt last year , not heard anything since .

    Hi there

Dont panic and definately DONT PHONE THEM. See what the letter says when you get it, check your credit report when you get it (there is more than one different company i use equifax and experian) and sit tight for now. You could contact the national debt helpline as they are very helpful, or check out their website for further advice.

These companies like you to panic as it makes you give them some money!Try not to worry too much, my partner recieved a similar letter a while back but we put up a fight as we knew nothing about an outstanding debt and after a few letters sent back and fore they wrote to say the case was closed and he owed nothing!

Dont panic they will just be phishing hoping someone will pay up. Just write them a letter stating that you do not acknowledge any debt owed to them and see what happens from there.
  • Hi

Hae received the letter. Here is what it says:

Therefore if you are the person named above, then please contact our office immediately on telephone number **** quoting reference number ***, whereupon further detailed information can be provided.

If however you are not the person named above and/or have any information regarding the persons [sic] possible whereabouts, then please contact our investigation team in confidence on the alternative telephone number or email address below.

Subject not known/goneaway [sic] : (telephone number and email address)

Any suggestions on what to do next?

I have told the ex to return further letters to sender with 'does not live here' on the envelope.

What do I do? Should I ignore it and see if they find me? I hate having this hanging over my head. I'm still waiting for my credit report - once it comes through maybe we'll have more idea of what's going on?
