If you can get online to transfer money out, you could dump some over to a best mate, employer, parent's account in the short-term while you set up a new account. My experience of setting up new accounts has been dire. It's that bit where they write to you and then want you to send them evidence of who you are. I never get round to it.

Lol.....good advice Pastures except my parents are with A&L! :rotfl:

My brother doesn't have an account and runs his direct debits for insurances etc through my account.

Goodness knows who my sister and brother in law are with, she gets a bit funny about giving that info out. :rotfl:

I really hope it doesn't come to fruition though as I have a good banking relationship with full account facilities with the Abbey and have had for over a decade and having to start again somewhere else and with a horrible basic account with an almost useless electron card would be an absolute nightmare...although admittedly, better than not being able to access my money at all!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Try HSBC, from what I've heard it is very easy to open an account with them and you get all the perks from day one .. they are also considered to be one of the safest banks at the moment .. not great interest rates though ..

Surely this kind of thread is what starts a mad panic of everyone drawing out their money......I'm with A&L and all I'm thinking now is should i just close my account!!!

Don't get me wrong its good to know....but no one has actually lost any money yet....have they?!
If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right

I'm with A&L but I can't really see anything to panic about. If they go under they go under. My little stash of money won't affect that and as it's fully protected then fine. I do appreciate the concerns of those who have their day-to-day finances there though - would a Post Office account be useful? Deposit a sum just in case it becomes difficult or longwinded to withdraw money from the bank (not sure if you can get a debit card or anything with them though).

Theres the Euro-zone "bail out" agreement that's been made over the weekend to consider. Hopefully this will add some stability.

Well I just posted on another thread that I was glad my ISA was with the Abbey

I just hope all this is just scaremongering..
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

Well, as I'm shorting them soon, it would be appreciated if you lot could spread some alarm and despondency, please.

    Fire, fire, anyone?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
