Personal allowance query

Hi..I understand this is £6035 at the moment.Does this tend to go up annually as a rule?Or does it rise and fall? thanks ian

It has alway gone up each year as far as I can recall.

the allowance changed from 5435 to 6035 and will remain as 6035 until next april...
this change means a one off decrease in monthly tax of 60 in September and 10 per month thereafter.

Most people will simply see this as a redcution of tax and not an explicit tax rebate

Payroll ought to know that it is that for the remainder of the year - otherwise you would be paying the tax back again the following month.

the personal allowance is temporary is the same sense that all tax rates are temporary, council tax rates are temporary, contribution rates of NI are temporary, state pension rates are temporary, state benefits are temporary, minimum wage is temporary, student loan rate are temporary et etc etc.


in general all these go up every year but they dont have too.

the rates are announced at varies times by the governement, including the pre budget speech and the budget
