Can you get rid of a pregnant lady?

I agree with Cazzie
The law does not always conform to everyone's idea of common sense, or of what is morally right.
But if people have a problem that potentially has legal consequences - as in this case - they cannot simply ignore the legal position just because they don't like it.
Well, actually they can.... but only if they are prepared to run the risk of writing a sizeable compensation cheque.
Like it or not, pregnant women have significant employment protections, and any employer who wishes to dismiss a pregnant employee needs to take expert legal advice before they do anything.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
And to keep the thread on topic, maybe we could wait for the OP to come back once her friend has seen a solicitor, because I really think we've covered the legal position as far as we are able! Any discussion about the rights and wrongs of it is best continued elsewhere.
GOING OFF-TOPIC
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: While it’s easy to wander off-topic that often prevents newbies finding the information they want quickly and easily (please see this rule). Please keep this thread on topic. If you’d like to discuss non-MoneySaving related topics please continue your discussion in The MoneySavers Arms or Discussion Time. Has there been any developments?Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0
