Mortgage Interest

Hi. Really struggling at the moment. Been in touch with CCCS and can't do a DMP yet until I can get back into work. In the meantime I've asked for a payment holiday on the mortgage but they'll only allow me to go interest only which I'm going to struggle to pay. Has anyone gone back to mortgage lenders after this to ask for a temporary interest reduction rather than a full holiday (say for 6 months ?). Anybody think it's worth the price of a stamp asking them ?
Thanks

You mention you are not working, has you been made redundant recently or have you been laid off? Are you not claiming benefits? Can the DSS not pay the mortgage interest for you if you are claiming benefits. Post an SOA (a full list of incomings and outgoings) and we will see what we can do for you.

  • Thanks for the reply Merlot. Already had my SOA up on a previous thread so thanks for everybody who came back on that. Unfortunately I can't get any benefits as I have been self employed and didn't have enough NICs in the tax year the business went down so having to rely on my wife's earnings as a part time nurse until I can get back into work. I'm just trying to find ways to cut down on everything at the moment so I can try and survive until that happens and the biggest expenditure is the mortgage interest so I was just wondering if anybody had any success in trying to get that reduced as a short term fix ...
