Court summons for non payment of Council Tax

Hi all, I've managed to stuff up the Council Tax, lost my reminder, forgot to pay it, and this morning got a letter through with a Court Summons.

Council Tax is in both mine and OH's names. I can get all this cleared up on Monday, so we won't have to go to court.

Thing is, OH was planning to get a Credit Card soon, will a court summons affect his credit rating?
:)

  • Funny.. we paid our council tax once the 'red notice' came in.. but still got one of these letters mid-week

Phone them up, offer to pay another month up front; i also got my council to email me confirmation that i don't need to turn up at court (which adds £30 to your bill, £50 more if you don't show up)

Sorry, dunno about the credit ratings, doubt it'll effect anything if the summons is cancelled.
  • no non payment of council tax is not put on your credit file
  • For the future, set up a DD for your council tax and ask for it to be spread over 12 months instead of 10, making it less per month. You have a choice of 3 payment dates and then you should never have to forget again! x

Thanks guys, I'll sort it out on Monday.

I would've done a DD but we're moving out at the end of this month!

Just wanted to make sure OH wouldn't suffer because of me being a bit of a div.

  • Hi

I got a hand letter from council for council tax with 250quid chasing fee for me.

Bcoz , council got my contact address as previous address and they are sending council tax letters to that address and i never received letters from council to my new address.

Just a hand letter saying that council is going for court to council tax payment. I am ready to whole council tax but 250pounds which is not fault.

Is their chance of saving that amount.

    Any help regarding this situation.
