I vote the night of the Christmas do's we should all come on here with a glass of wine and some nibbles  :beer:I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

 Totally agree with you - yes I had this problem in the job I was in last Christmas and was made to feel very much the "outsider" because I didn't (i.e. couldn't afford to) join in the many social events, the Christmas night out, the very generous present giving etc. Although many of the folk I worked with claimed to be massively in debt they thought nothing of spending on the new clothes, drinks money, expensive late night taxis etc., that such events usually involve. It seemed that for months the sole topic of conversation was who had bought what and who was wearing what to these dos. Thankfully, I no longer work there and my current employers seem a bit more sensitive about such issues, however I found it all pretty unpleasant at the time.0

I never ever go out with people from work, they are my work colleagues and I spend so much of my time with them I refuse to socialise with them as well

If invited on a 'work do' that I don't want to go on, I ask if I can get the cost from expenses and time off in lieu; no? my money, my time, I choose what I do with both. And if they think I'm a miserable old git - they're likely right!0

I am officially a boring old fart cos I don't go out drinking any more.
I won't do Christmas do's either.
I agree completely with girlracer

I think I've solved this problem by taking over the organising of the Christmas Do! This way it is £12.99 for 2 courses or £15.99 for 3 - in a cosy pub. It is lunch - so it is work time and cheaper than an evening meal, AND much easier to use public transport to get home. Drinks of course will be extra (but therefore optional).
We're doing Secret Santa for a fiver instead of last year's nightmare 'buy everyone a small gift they don't want'. Still money I could do without spending, but this year I will go instead of having to sit it out.0 -

My thoughts entirely - why on earth would you want to spend money having to spend MORE timeWhen you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying! :rotfl:0
