Problems with Setanta in bad weather

anyone else's Setanta go off when it's raining? My OH is hopping mad about this. Every time there is heavy rain or stormy weather (quite a lot of the time!) the picture on Setanta channels is all over the place, and is basically un-watchable. When we phone they blame Sky and say the dish must need aligned. And predictably, when we ring Sky they blame Setanta. Just wondered if anyone else had this problem? We are in Newtownabbey. OH keeps saying he is going to cancel but I know he won't...wish he would though!

Yes its a pain in the !!!, i only had it for the NI matches but cant see anything unless its bright sunshine. I sent them a letter last month giving my 60 days notice and will be cancelling my DD on 16th Oct. It will be the same tomorrow for the match, but if you call them and ask them to resend the signal it works for a while. I'll just watch it on https://www.justin.tv

Im in Antrim and its exactly the same for me and it drives me mad!

What bugs me even more is...I lose Setanta 1+2, Rangers tv and Celtic tv but all their other channels work just fine. You would think Setanta Ireland would fail too but its fine and dandy.

I rang them and was told it was the sky dish so I asked them to explain how come it only affected these channels.......he had no answer.

On the bright side i managed to get the payment reduced to £7.50 until January by threatening to cancel, he told me to ring back in December and he will see if he can do me another deal.

Total rubbish reception though from the second biggest sports provider(?)!!!!

we're in newtownabbey and have no problems with setanta but are on cable.
sky are poor in bad weather - wind or rain.
    cable isnt affected by weather.
We used to have sky and although the whole package is slightly better than cable (if a little dearer) I wouldnt go back to them for this reason - seeing and paying for half a football match is not fun!

I would go to virgin like a shot but we can't get them in our street  i like the look of their v+ box (think that's what it's called) my brother got a great deal with them for his and says it's superior to sky+ - which I couldn't live without.

not sure if it is better but definitely cheaper.
the menu system and the remote control/response time of the remote is far better with sky.
but if you cant get it in your street then I suppose you dont have a choice.
    sorry to hear that.

It is due to your dish needing realigned you can try an alt freq.

    press services
    then 4 for system setup
    then 4 for add channels
    then type in:
    11585
    for the frequency
    H
    for the polarisation
    click down to find channels
    press select
    move down to "Setanta Sports"
press the yellow button on your remote
    then press select

then scroll back to other channels, and select
    setanta sports
and you should at least get setanta 1

Can you give some details for channel 4 and more 4 and sky news channel as these are the channels that I seem lose to the weather.
The irony is they sometimes disappear in bright sunshine in the day clear blue skies. I think it needs realignment but will it work when it happens again to do a channel search like this.
  • I have Sky and I have had problems with Setanta also when it rains really heavy, but it only seems to be Setanta Sports1 that can't be viewed, Setanta Ireland, Setanta Sports 2 and the other channels are fine. I remember the day a few months back when the Westlink flooded with the heavy rain, and I was getting set for the Liverpool v Sunderland game only to find out that the channel wasn't working:mad:

So i had to hoof it to my friends house who had cable:D
